Professional Cycle Clothing; Bio-Racer, One of the Best

Here at Bike Cycling Reviews we like good equipment and that includes clothing. In hot or cold weather you want to be comfortable and your clothes play a very big part in all conditions. Bio-Racer is one of the leading manufacturers of cycle clothing and we were lucky enough to be given the chance to try and review their top class kit

If you were as lucky as we were to see Tom Boonen win the World Road Race Championship in Madrid in 2005 you would have noticed the Belgian National teams clothing, or for that matter the Dutch, Lithuanian and Turkish national squads racing kit, all were made by Bio-Racer, who have been making specialist cycle clothing since 1984.

For the older readers you will remember Johan Museeuw winning the 1996 Worlds in Lugano, yea he was wearing a Bio-Racer National jersey and followers of skating look out for the Dutch National squad clothing

Sublimation

In the past we have been asked : “How does cycle clothing get all those bright colors and the sponsors names on the jerseys and shorts?”

Well Bio-Racer use a sublimation process, this process involves using high pressure and temperature to blast the colors and sponsors logos into the material, this gives a razor-sharp printing quality and the colors should last a life time it so secure. All their clothing manufacturing is an in-house production process, unlike some clothing manufacturers who sub-contract, Bio-Racer can control there production from beginning to end, design, printing, sublimation and the assembly of the garments all under there noses.

The Jersey

OK that’s how they print them what do they feel like and what do they look like on? First the short sleeved race jersey, as with most jerseys these days its made of 100% polyester, the material is of a breathable weave construction (coolmax), which is great for those hot summer days and as usual the standard three back pockets.

The main features I like the best are the length, nice and short, there is nothing worst than a long summer short sleeved jersey that after a while the pockets are hanging over the saddle, also the sleeves are short, so if you want more of a tan you don’t have to turn the sleeves up.

The jersey is made with side panels and the sleeves and shoulders are built with one piece of material, this makes for a much better fit and there is elastic round the waist and sleeve cuffs to keep every thing in place. This jersey has a feeling of a tailored fit and the colors are both bright and perfectly done without any over-printing.

A full-length zip would have been nice, but then I didn’t ask for one, so it’s my own fault. As well as the national team jerseys they also make a large selection of plain color combinations for men and women, if you have a cycling club they also can make team wear to your specifications.

The Shorts

Cycling shorts must be one of the most important items of bike clothing, if you ride your bike for any length of time you will know the importance of a good pair of shorts, probably a sore ass must be the worst thing in cycling.

When you find a manufacturer of shorts that suit you, then you tend to stay with them, so when I first rode in these

bib-shorts they were so comfortable I knew I must get more. First the shape of the bib-shorts fits perfectly, the panels are stitched to make the short follow the contours of the body, specially the panel that starts on the side of the leg and then goes up and over the lower back (just above the bottom) and back down the other leg, this all give the rider a great feeling of comfort.

The bib part is stretchy enough for all sizes and there is grip bands to hold the legs down, but lets face it the most important part has to be the seat insert.

Bio-Racer use there “Elastic Airstripe shammy” which has a “four way pad” and as you might have guessed it is designed to stretch in all directions to keep you comfortable in the delicate place.

These are possibly the nicest shorts I have ridden in, this is my honest opinion, absolutely no discomfort here and the look is perfect. Bio-Racer also make ladies shorts and plane short as well as the team clothing.

And All the Other Bits of Clothing

Transotex jersey

As well as the jerseys and shorts Bio-Racer also make a load of other bits and pieces for cycling, top of the list must be the long sleeved Transotex vest, made to the same high quality as the short sleeved jersey but using a warmer material, it is made longer in the body for extra warmth, just right for chilly days and with another jersey underneath you should be warm enough on cold days.

What else? Hats, gloves, mitts, jackets, tights, 3/4 length tights, leg and arm warmers, wind proofs and water proofs, sleeveless jerseys and under vests, and many other handy items, they manufacture a range of women’s specific clothing and there is a summer and winter collection, basically they do it all,
they have it covered!

What Do We Think? 9/10 A full length zip would have done it!
