Lampre-Caffita’s young rider Damiano Cunego last year beat his team leader, Gilberto Simoni in the Giro d’Italia and won the Tour of Lombardy, he is now the top man, He is only 23 years old so has a long future ahead of him and is a big favourite with the fans.
Simoni wants to win the Tours Italy and France; this is unlikely, as he may have to ride in the service of Cunego. The rest of the team are there to help the leaders, Mazzoleni and Petrov are strong on there day.
Lampre makes things with steel and Caffita makes coffee machines. The 25 riders have an average age of 27 and 68% of them are Italian, they ride Cannondale frames and Campagnolo equipment.
