ISIS Bottom Bracket

Richard Blackstone has a Bottecchia frame with Ultegra and he wants to fit a carbon FSA SLK chain set, his problem is that he needs to know if he has the correct specifications, we think he has.

Question:
I have a Bottecchia BZ sprint with Ultegra/FSA Omega crank set. I have purchased an upgrade crank set. FSA SLK Carbon. I need to know what size bottom bracket to buy. I was told ISIS 108 English thread. I think there needs to be another number. Can anyone help? Desperate to ride.

Hi Richard.
FS-SLKCC-NCL-TOPThat should be all the information that you will need. The English thread is the thread of your frame, which is very important. 108 refer to the width, but this is not as important as your crank set comes with the bottom bracket axle fitted to the crank set.

The bottom bracket consists of only the bearing cups and a protective sleeve, this makes the bearings further apart, on the outside of the bottom bracket shell, and this should make it stiffer. Did the crank set not come supplied with a Mega-EXO bottom bracket? There are other manufacturers who make bottom brackets for this crank set. Good luck.

The picture shown above is not an ISIS bottom bracket! ISIS bottom bracket has internal ball bearings, not external! I think the picture shown above is a mega-exo bottom bracket.

I have an ISIS bottom bracket on one of my bikes and I am having to replace this bottom bracket about every 1000-2000 miles! The bearings tend to fail prematurely. I wouldn’t get it if I were you.
