Hanging up Carbon Wheels?
Joe M from Minneapolis has a Trek Madone 6.9 fitted with Bontrager Aeolus 5.0 carbon wheels. He hangs his bike up on a hook and wants to know if this will damage the wheels.
Question:
I have a Madone 6.9 with Aeolus 5.0 carbon wheels. Does it damage the wheels if I hang the bike by the wheels on hook covered with a cloth?
Hi Joe.
No! It shouldn’t cause any damage to your carbon wheels if there is protection on the hook. Be careful with the deep section rim when you are hanging the bike up not to damage the side of the rim as hooking the bike up. If you are worried then don’t hang the bike up.
Hanging a bike up is a good idea, if you can do it. It takes the weight off the tires or tubes which stops them deforming if the bike is left for a long time. Remember not to hang anything on the bike when it’s hanging up, the extra weight could damage the carbon on the rim.
Nice bike.
