Check your handlebar and stem every year
As bike shop owner i often see poorly maintained bicycles. Especially with highend carbon roadbikes and mountainbikes it is necessary to inspect handlebar and stems very closely. It is not sufficent only to look at them. You have to dissassemble the handlebar and check wether your carbon handlebar is not threatend at the stem clamp. Often the handlebars are – because of to high torque – damaged exactly at this area.
So keep in mind: Check you handlebar – carbon or aluminum – every year and after every downfall. Do not only look at it, but dissassemble the handlebar for grooves!
Otherwise your next ride could end like this.
