Rudy Hizat is thinking of buying himself a Giant Talon MTB and wants our thoughts on the correct size of frame; he hasn't told us his inside leg measurements so we will have to give him a guess and how he can work it out for himself
Question:
I am 175 cm in height and 150 kg in weight. I'm planning to buy Giant Talon 2008 size 18". Kindly advise the appropriate bike size for me?
Hi Rudy,
The Giant Talon is a good looking bike; an Alloy frame with Rockshox Tora 302 forks with remote lockout, the equipment is Shimano Deore, the gears, chain set (22x32x44), bottom bracket and Deore Rapid Fire 27 speed shifters. The brakes are Shimano M485 hydraulic discs with Shimano hubs built onto Sun Rhyno rims, fitted with Hutchinson Barracuda tires, the pedals are Shimano M505 SPD's and the seat post and handle bars and stem are from Race Face. The chain is from Shimano and the cassette (11-34) is by SRAM. A very good frame with exceptional goods fitted to it for not much over a thousand Australian Dollars.
As to the correct size for you we will have to guess, the 18" maybe a little large, unless you have long legs? You should buy a MTB bike smaller than your road bike and take up the difference with the long seat pin. At your height the 18" could be the right one, but depending on your leg length the smaller 16" could be a better fit. Is there any chance you could try both of them at your local shop? At least manage to sit on one of them to gauge the correct size, smaller bikes weigh less and I most conditions handle better, so if you can ride a 16" then I would go for that one. Nice bike whatever.
