The Saddle Fit System

Craig has a question which we all go through, "what saddle should I buy?" We have been through this before, but it's a very important subject that will never go away. Craig has seen a saddle measuring service, but he can't remember where he has seen it. We have been doing a bit investigating and found which saddle system he was talking about and describe here what its all about

Question: Samuel
I love your sight and the reviews, very informative.
Where can I get the perfect saddle, I find nothing worse than the ache from a long ride with a saddle that is not quite right for you.
I heard that someone provided a service where they actually measure where your weight bearing bones are and then match the saddle to you, problem is I can not find out where I read this, can you please help out?
Regards,
Craig.

Hi Craig,

Saddle buying is a nightmare; trial and error can be a painful and expensive way to find the saddle for you. Craig had heard about the fit service and its from Specialized, they have The Body Geometry Saddle Fit System, it measures the sit-bone width, this is the distance between the ischial tuberosities and pelvis/back angle, also as the rider rolls forward into a race position the V shaped sit bone placement tapers closer together.

Sit Bones

Once the bones have been measured then this is then matched to the multi-width Body Geometry saddles. Specialized claim that conventional saddles reduce blood flow, but Body Geometry Saddles produce results comparable to sitting in a padded chair. They say that traditional saddles put pressure on the soft tissue of the perineum, compressing the sensitive arteries and nerves. By removing the center section of the BG saddles they reduce soft tissue damage and soreness or numbness.

Measurements

The woman's saddles also have been tested thoroughly and have less and more padding where it is needed, so that soft tissue damage is reduced due to the lower pressure and higher comfort and longer endurance.

This system sounds great, but you need to find a local shop that can do a measurement. The saddles are also very nice; they look great and are light. The Toupe Team saddle range has a carbon reinforced shell and has a combination of flex and stiffness, light weight foam padding, titanium rails and water resistant cover.

If you get measured up for a Specialized Body Geometry and find your size, you could find another manufacturer that might fit, it's a bit cheeky, but the measurement is the important bit.
