Question:
hi, I have problem with my bike. It doesn't comfortable to me any more, it gears slip all of time in any preasure (I have change the chain with the new one) what should I do...?
By the way it 10 years old bike
thanks before.
Hi Iway,
If your bike is 10 years old then for sure the chain needed replacing, but also the cassette as it also gets worn, if want it to last longer then you need to change the chain more often. After 10 years the chain will have stretched and the teeth on the cassette have worn, if you look at the cassette you will see that they are further apart and that tooth its self is hooked, after 10 years yours will be very worn and needs changing.
The chain and cassette wear at the same time, but the chain also stretches so it tends not to last as long as a freewheel or cassette. The new chain will not fit on the old cassette as the teeth are further apart than the gap between the links of the chain, this is why you are having slipping gears.
So, Iway, the bad news is that you need to replace the cassette or freewheel as it will be very worn. This should sort out your problem; you may also need to adjust the gears when you have everything set up again. Let us know if you have any more questions and we will do our best to sort you out.
