Curtis B has a Fezzari Speedster R1 Hybrid bike and wants to up grade his wheels, his problem could be that he is running on 8 speed, we have found that the Shimano 8 speed cassette will fit a Shimano 9 speed hub, so he has no problems there. It's down to how much he wants to spend as usual
Question: Looking to get another set of wheels for my Fezzari Speedster R1. What do you suggest?
Hi Curtis,
Your old wheels are made up from Alex 700c rims, stainless spokes and a mix of Formula front hub and a Shimano rear hub, both with alloy quick releases. These are quite good wheels, but I can see why you might want to up grade to something a little more lighter.
You have one big problem, they are 8 speed and 8 speed is not the easiest to find now that 9 and 10 is more normal. Luckily an 8 speed cassette will fit on a 9 speed hub, but then you have to find some 9 speed wheels.
This isn't as difficult as there are still lots around, many people are still using Shimano 105 hubed wheels, and take a look on internet and you should find many bargains for 9 speed wheels. I would think you would be better to look for Shimano hubs and alloy rims, 32 or 36 spokes, your bike is a hybrid and you don't say if you do any off road or path riding, but I would suggest you get some strong wheels incase you want to be a bit more adventurous. I hope this helps? Remember, look for Shimano 8 or 9 speed hubs and alloy rims, and if you want more advice just e-mail us.
