Richard wants more information on our bike testers are he wants to know if we can put them through their paces. Our test riders are not as heavy as Richard but we do give all our equipment a thorough testing over many different terrains. Here are the details
Question: What is the weight and experience of the tester? It is very important to tell the reader the weight of the test rider. I am a large guy and am so tired of a 150 lbs man/woman telling me about products that are weight sensitive, i.e. wheels, frames, cranks, handlebars, seats, etc. Good, experienced heavy riders, those over 200 lbs, are actually better testers because they stress the new products much more so than smaller riders. Any new product brought to market by a large national company will more than likely meet the expectations of small riders because the tester does not have the time to adequately test or stress the product. However, if you let someone who is experienced and heavy (225 lbs) then he will almost immediately note the problems, the short comings, the benefits of the new product. Your analysis of the Roval Star wheels is a perfect example. I have been trying for 10 yrs to find a good wheel set. I live in a small town and weight 245 lbs.
I can't find anyone who can help me so, in turn; I have spent $100s on testing. Your review means nothing unless I know the weight and experience of the tester.
Hi Richard,
You need clarity on the size, weight and experience of our test riders, well none of them are over 200 lbs, but all are experienced riders who have raced at a fairly high level in road races, time trials, track, mountain bike and one of us has been riding Triathlon recently.
