A Collectors Bike; Ciocc with Campagnolo 50th Anniversary Group

Mike Freville has a very smart bike, it really is a collectors item, an Italian Ciocc frame fitted with the very special Campagnolo 50th Anniversary Group Set of which there wasn't that many made, what he wants to know is how much is it worth, a very difficult question to answer, but here we go
Question: I have a Campy 50th Anniversary Gruppo made in 1983 I believe. It's mounted on a 1986 Ciocc frame. I wish to sell the Gruppo and will negotiate for the rest of the bike also. The equipment is in excellent condition. How do I determine the market value? Thanks...and a great column you have.
Hi Mike,
That's some set up you have there, a photograph would be nice, we have had a dig around and found two Ciocc frames, probably around the same age as yours, they were a fine piece of steel frame art, the paint jobs were either a plain single color, which was a classic look, or they were bright multi-colored offerings that you needed to wear dark glasses to ride.
We also found some photos of the Group Set, very nice!

Campagnolo 50th Anniversary Group Set
The 50th Anniversary group set (Gruppo del Cinquantenario) appeared on the market in 1983, this was a sad year for Campagnolo as Tullio Campagnolo, the company's founder, died in February of this year. The second of the group sets was presented to Pope John Paul the second and the top group set, Super Record, adopted the brake design first introduced by the 50th Anniversary group. It was a wonderful looking group at the time and now you wouldn't ride it, put it up on the wall and admire it, but not use it.

What is the Worth of the Bike?
It's as difficult to put a price on a bike like this as it is to find the buyer who would buy it. There are people out there who do collect older bikes and equipment and I would suggest that e-bay could be the best place to advertise a bike like this. I have seen the group set sell for between 2,000 and 2,500 U.S. Dollars. The frame on the other hand is impossible to price, as the condition is very important. I think if you place the bike on e-bay with a lowest acceptable price of 4,000 Dollars and see what happens, if it doesn't sell then see what you would accept, that is if you really want to sell it or just find out how much its worth.

It's a fine piece of cycle art, that's for sure!

Opinions from Readers
Many thanks! I really didn't think you'd answer this one. I
really appreciate your info. My CIOCC is the beautiful blue paint with
many CIOCC decals and engravings. Michael
I agree with Samuel's response. It is a vintage bike and as such you have to
find a buyer for it. E-Bay is a good alternative. Also a well respected
local bike shop near where you live, and lastly look for biking clubs,
especially the ones that are made up of older members, because they will be
more aware of the older bikes and their worth.

So pleased to see such a wonderful bike and especially the Groupset
I personally have a 50th Groupset and a Colnago frame
I have ridden the bike on & off for the past 25 years, the last few as a
fixed wheel
If Mike was to get in touch with me I may be interested in the Groupset and
the frame depending on size.
Looking forward to discussions
Warm Regards
Bruce.
