A Collectors Bike

Craig has a 1986 carbon bike with classic equipment fitted to it; he wants to know how much it could be worth. This is not an easy job as there are not that many bike collectors around and how much someone would pay is even harder to guess. Here is our suggestion

Question:
I have an early (86) all carbon frame road bike that I would like to find the value for. It is in beautiful condition. Has Huret drilled Jubilee version derailleur. Campy hubs, cassette, shifters, and skewers. Assos cranks, pedals, rims, spokes, and bottom bracket. Cinelli stem and bars, Spidel stronglight headset. A collectors dream.

Hi Craig,

Yes, your Alan frame does sound like "a collectors dream" but that is where you problem lies, you need to find that collector! Possibly the best place to try would be on e-bay, you may not sell it, but you could find out how much anyone might be willing to pay for it.

It is very difficult to sell a "classic bike", there are collectors out there, but older bikes are not hard to come by, even in pristine condition! The bike is probably more valued by you on a personal basis and it might be best if you look after the bike and hang it on the wall. The problem is that the bike is worth what someone will pay for it.

Your comments are right on target. This is a great bike. Sell on Craig's list for an amount you're will to negoiate on. Most older bikes end up as Fixies unless they are really, really upper top end or very very old. Technology simply moves too fast to keep the masses satisfied.
