27 inch, The Same as 700c?

Henry Cadayona from the Philippines has a very simple question, but a very important one! He wants to know if a 27 inch wheel is the same size as a 700c wheel? There are a few 27 inch wheels out there so here is our answer.

Question:
is a 27 wheel the same as 700?

Hi Henry,

In Britain all bike wheels were 27 inch, but most wheels are now the continental size of 700c, it is smaller than a 27 inch wheel and the tires are not interchangeable. So, the easy answer is that they are not the same size. The brakes have to be different as they have to be set much higher for the 27 inch than for the 700c. I hope this helps?
