Bike seats for your child fit behind you saddle on a special clamp to the seat tube of your bicycle.
Get a bike child seat and take the family with you
Usually the seat will take a child of about 22 kilograms, up to about a 4 or 5 year old, but you have to be very careful over this as it could be very dangerous to overload the bike, the seat and yourself, remember its you that is going to have to pedal around with this extra weight and responsibility.
Like any larger vehicle on the road its more difficult to manoeuvre and the stopping distance is much longer than on a normally laden bike and unlike most other extra loads this one talks, wriggles, wants attention and quite often when on the move will fall asleep at your back.
Probably the biggest disadvantage is the extra weight, fine if you live in a flat area, but what if you live up a hill, good exercise, but are you going to have the strength to be able to look after your child when you get home?
Take all this into consideration before you buy a bike child seat, if you are going to take the family for an nice easy ride along the local canal or disused railway line or along the coast, great, but if its every day up hills with shopping in all weathers after a while the fun might go out of it.
Remember to get a bike helmet for your child as well, just in case of an accident.
