Hi Sam & Al,

Just been reading your carbon fork ideas for the Vitus alloy bike and was wondering if you could do a review on a carbon trekking fork please?

The one I have in mind if the "Columbus TUSK Trekking Fork". Pictures and details can be found at: http://www.ceeway.com/what.htm (about halfway down the page).

I am particularly interested to hear your views about pannier mounts for carbon forks (as on the Columbus one above) and whether or not this is a suitable application for this style of fork/material?

Finally what differences in handling could I expect between a Cro-Mo Steel and Carbon fork?

Best regards and many thanks for a great read,
Peter

I have a 1993 Merlin Titanium fame with 1" steer tube. I replaced the headset, fork, stem, and handle bars in Feb 2009 with the following:
Easton EC90 Aero (all Carbon) @ $152 ,
Chris King NoThreadSet headset,
Ritchey WCS 4-axis Stem,
E3 Curve OS Carbon Handlebar @ $152, and
Bontragger handlebar wrap.

Since I had upgradded everything else on the bike since 2006 except the brakes, I now "almost" have a new bike. I have ridden almost 5000 miles since these last parts were installed and love the ride.

Easton made a threaded ec90 carbon fork, and they are still out there,it might take some time to find one. Fsa,cane creek and ritchey I believe all make threadless headsets for 1 inch steerer tubes.
