Bontrager X-Lite Wheels
John McKinley has a pair of Bontrager X-Lite wheels, but he needs a new rear rim and is having difficulty finding a replacement 24 hole rim as Bontrager no longer make his rim. We have had good look around and found a few rims, but it’s a problem!
Question:
Bontrager race x-lite rims are discontinued and unavailable.
I have a 24-spoke rear wheel with the rim cracked but want to re-lace
the hub to a new 24 hole rim. Is there another rim that would be
compatible?
Hi John,
When equipment goes out of manufacture there is always the problem of replacement, I get the feeling that the big manufacturers want you just to bin everything and buy the new kit!
So what you need to do is find another 24 hole rim, not so easy, but here are the rims we found:
DT Swiss RR 585 Road Rim.
Fast Forward F4R clincher rim.
Alex Crostini R3.1.
Alex R600.
Alex PRO28.
And all ZIPP Rims.
There are probably others, but as you have found out many of the manufacturers web-sites don’t list spoke holes and that shops don’t stock 24’s or in many cases don’t stock rims and prefer to sell you complete rims. Have you written to Bontrager? Point out your problem to them and ask if there is a rim that they suggest?
When you replace the rim you may have to replace the spokes as the configuration maybe different with off-set holes in the rim or with different amounts of spokes on the drive side from the non-drive.
Let us know how you get on?
