Which Tire Rack; Saris, Yakima, Thule or Hollywood?
Joe wants to know which Spare Tire Rack we think is best. He gives us the choice between Saris, Yakima, Thule or Hollywood. We look at them all and give him our opinion
Question: What is the best spare tire bike rack?
Saris, Yakima, Thule or Hollywood?
Thanks.
Hi Joe,
Not an easy question as all the Tire Racks you have mentioned are of very good quality, best materials are used in the production and in the end your decision could come down to price.
The other thing you have to decide on is whether you want the rack to bolt on to the carrier for spare wheel or if you prefer the rack to hold onto the tire it’s self. Both systems are secure, the bolt on rack is less likely to be stolen as you can use the secure wheel bolts that stop people from taking your expensive spare wheel. The problem is when you have a puncture, then everything has to be unbolted, but then if you have a puncture with the tire method you also have to take the whole thing off, its swings and roundabouts.
If you are going to leave the rack on all the time then get the bolt on version, if you are going to remove the rack when not in use then get the other style. The style that fits over the tire you have to be careful that it does not damage the tire in anyway as it does grip round the tire for support, the bolt on rack is better for the tire.
Looking at the four racks, we liked the Thule Spare Me, spare tire rack, it’s only for two bikes, but is well made and is lockable and not too expensive. To fit over the tire the Yakima Spare Joe Rear Tire Mount Bike rack looks like the one to get. It adjusts for off set tires and can be fitted and removed fairly easily when not in use.
So, Joe we like them all, what you should get depends on which style you want, how many bikes you need to carry and how much you want to spend. All four are of top quality, decide what your needs are, and then go for the price you can afford.
Good luck with your Spare Tire Rack hunt, I hope we have helped?
