What About the Trek Madone 6.9?

Peter Parker used to have a Colnago C50, which is a very nice frame, but he has to replace it due to it getting wrecked. His local bike shop has a Trek Madone 6.9 and he wants to know what we think of it and should he buy one?

Looking for feed back on what you have heard about the Trek Madone 6.9. I have been on a C50 but it was wrecked last month and my LBS has the 6.9. Thanks.

We took a look at the Trek Madone frames a while back, you read about them here: http://www.bikecyclingreviews.com/The_Trek_Madone.html now this article takes a good look all the Trek Madones, the full range, from the Madone 6.9 Pro down through the woman’s specific and the cheaper models. We liked all the Trek Madones, but you want to know about the top of the range 6.9, so this is what we think.

You don’t say if you are interested in just the frame or the complete bike? If the equipment on your old bike is getting swapped over or are you splashing out on the full set? The one thing I would definitely say would be to go for the Pro version as the geometry is much more “racy” and the handling is more what you would expect from a top class professional bike.

Extended Seat Post

Everyone who has ridden one agrees its comfortable and responsive, the frame is made from OCLV Red Carbon, the best and the forks are the Bontrager Race XXX Lite full carbon with an E2 carbon steerer. The frame is very ridged, but there is some comfort given by the flex in-built to the extended seat post. The frame has every thing you need; class and style, it may not have the Italian flash of the Colnago but it is a winner as can be seen from the results of the Astana team this season.

The Complete Bike

If you are thinking of the complete bike then it is only the best equipment; Shimano Dura-Ace 10 speed, along with Bontrager XXX Lite oversize handle bars and carbon stem, the saddle is also Bontrager Race X Lite. The head set is from Cane Creek, so all great kit. The wheels are unbelievable, they are the Bontrager Aeolus 5.0 with very deep carbon rims and a twin spoke pattern, 16 spokes in the front and rear wheels, these wheels are really from HED, top class.

If you like this bike and have the cash then I would buy it, tomorrow or today if you have the time before the shop closed.
