Bicycle Tires, Tubes and Difficult Questions
Steve has asked us a very difficult question about tires and rims, he has caught us out on this occasion, but we do give our opinion and hope this is enough to help Steve to decide on new tires. This has been our most difficult of questions yet!
Hello,
I bought a bike that has Kenda tires K-831-006 to fit HB 575 rim.
They are 26 X 1.95
I popped a tube the second time I rode it.
I want to use the Kenda Downhill Tubes.
I need to replace my mountain bikes tires with a wider tire, so I can use the 26 X 2.40 (2.25mm thick) downhill tubes.
The old tires say “Built to fit HB 575 Rim”.
What is an “HB 575″ rim, and do I need a special tire for it?
I’ve searched the Internet and can’t find any info.
Hi Steve,
We also have searched the web and asked everyone we know in the cycle trade and we cant find any info either, but I would suggest looking at the rim and see what it says. Probably it’s a normal rim that will take just about most tire width size, if in doubt ask where you bought the bike, or ask someone at the bike shop to fit the tires you want to buy and ask if they will be all right for these rims.
Inner tubes are not usually a problem, unless they are too big then you tend to get punctures, too small and they will stretch, but I would advise to all ways get the correct size tube for the tire or this can lead to problems.
Good luck and if you can think of another hard question please send it in.
