A Big Tire Problem
Nicola has put rather a large tire on the back wheel of her mountain bike, but she has a problem with it rubbing on the front mechanism, she has one idea of how to fix it and we have another
Question: hello,
I put a schwalbe space 2.30 on the rear wheel of my kona cindercone 2001, and the tire being wider than the previous I had, it grinds on the front derailleur`s cage when in lower gear. Is the only solution changing the bottom bracket to another with a wider axle?
Thankx.
Hi Nicola,
Why did you put on such a big tire? Do you have a lot of bumpy, stony paths?
You could change the bottom bracket for a wider one, this would take the front gear mech further away from the wheel and stop your tire rubbing, but you would have to adjust the front gear out quite a lot, this might not be possible, so maybe this is not the best solution.
We would suggest you change the tire back to a smaller one; this would be easier and probably cheaper, and save a lot of possible problems with the bottom bracket and gear mechanism. Sorry you won’t have that big fat tire, but it’s the simple answer. I hope it all works out well for you.
