Specialized Mondo Tires, Good or Bad?

Jim Redfern has bought a pair of Specialized Mondo tires and wants to know what we think of them. There are six different models of the Mondo and different colors, we take a look at the range and give Jim our opinion

Question: how good do you rate the specialized mondo tyre that tom and the quick step boys use just bought a pair never used them before.

Hi Jim,
Nice tires, I think you will like them, they are made for performance, and here we take a good look at the different Mondo tires from Specialized.

Mondo S-Works Open Tubular Tire
This is the best tire they make, it has Dual Radius Tread which gives great handling and its very light due to the 290 TPI Gossamer spun casing, this gives it low road resistance and will roll with little effort. Expensive, but worth it.

Mondo S-Works Tubular Tire
Very similar design to the Open Tubular, but obviously built to be glued to a Sprint Rim, low rolling resistance, dual compound and wide sides for better cornering. A very good tubular that compares well with Vitoria or Clement tubulars.

Mondo S-Works Tire
A cheaper version of the Open Tubular, dual compound tread and low road resistance. The difference is in the casing, not so many treads in the casing and the beading is Aramid instead of Kevlar, it also has a Flak Jacket puncture resistant band, a good fast tire and very reasonably priced.

Mondo Pro Tire
Less treads per inch in the making of the casing than the other tires, but has all the advantages, other wise it’s practically the same tire as the S-Works, it will be slightly heavier, but a high performance tire.

Mondo Sport and 24 inch Tire
The cheapest of the range, less TPI and has a Wire bead. They have the same puncture protection, but are single compound, still very low road resistance with a slick tread and a nice wide shoulder for cornering traction. The Sport also comes in the 24 inch size.

Jim, you didn’t say which tires you have bought, no matter as they are all very good, but you need to have bought the correct ones for the job.

For racing or performance cycling you should go for the S-Works Open Tubular or the S-Works Tire and of course if you use Sprint wheels then you have to use the S-Works Tubular.

For harder wearing, but with performance you want the Mondo Pro, its very similar to the S-Works. For price you have to go for the Sport, it also has performance and speed. There you are Jim, does that help?
