Nishiki Bikes, What Do We Know?

Silver Valovich wants to know about Nishiki bikes, we have some bad news for him and some history on the Nashiki Bike brand that “used” to be from Japan

Question: what company makes the Nashiki NSS beta? What website can i go to see their bicycles?

Hi Silver,
The bad news is that Nishiki doesn’t exist anymore. The Nishiki brand name was bought by Derby International to go along with the Raleigh and the Univega brands. Derby stopped manufacturing Nishiki in 2001.

Originally Nishiki were quite popular, but they made a big mistake by selling there bikes through large stores, this alienated the bike shops that also sold their bikes and they never recovered from the loss of many of there dealers.

Sorry, but you can’t look anywhere for them on the internet, unless some one has an old one they are selling.

I have a Nishiki for sale. Since I’m not a bike enthusiast, I have no idea what model it is. It’s not original. It’s been repainted. 26″ mountain bike tires and wheels w/new tubes. $150.00 + any shipping needed. You can reach me at (512) 658-0417.

Just purchased a Nishiki at a garage sale. It’s in almost newcondition. Would like to register it on my insurance records, but can’t find the serial number. It’s a 21 speed, mountain project, pueblo with the number 4130 printed on the seat tube and front fork. The etched numbers YST 022.2 are on the fork locknut. Made in Taiwan also appears on the frame. Any info??

I have a Nishiki International 12 speed that I bought while doing my tour in Okinawa. This is the model that the PX (AAFES) carried and sold for $390. It’s been a great bike, has never required any major repairs, and is still going strong. Any questions about it- feel free to ask! ddrfires308@yahoo.com

I have an old 10 speed Nishiki, I supsect mid 80’s. The only thing I can determine wrong with it is needing new tires and adjustment of the breaks. The frame is straight & gears shift just fine. Any advice? Should I spend the money on it for a tune up?

Nishiki is now manufactured in Gothenburg in Sweden and are producing excellent bikes of different styles. Not cheap, but price worthy as materials and equipment is excellent. Website is http://www.nishiki.se

I have a Nishiki 1985 girls twelve speed bike. It was my daughters. It has not been ridden very much and would require new tires, however they still work. It is a mauve color and is the custom sport version from Japan. Let me know if anyone is interested.
