New Wheels for a Trek Madone?
Robert has a Trek Madone and thinks it’s about time he replaces his Bontrager Race Lite wheel set and wants some suggestions to which wheels he should consider. We make him a list
Question:
I have a 2005 Trek Madone and my Bontager Race Lites are ready for retirement, any suggestions on a replacement/upgrade wheels set?
Hi Robert,
I suggest you read our review of the Shimano Dura-Ace wheels we did a while back. They have been probably the best we have ridden and as your bike has Shimano equipment then it’s probably best to stick with the Japanese manufacturer.
Other wheels that we like include: all the Fulcrum wheels and many of the offerings from Mavic. We also like the Hyperon Ultra Two from Campagnolo, but as your Trek probably has Shimano I wouldn’t fit them, unless you can find a set with a Shimano compatible cassette body, which is possible but not easy.
There are others that we also like, i.e. Zipp and American Classic also interesting are the new wheels from SRAM, but it’s too early to say too much about them.
We will soon have a review of the Mavic Ultimate Carbon Cosmic wheels, so come back soon for that!
