The Best Lights for the Winter
Craig Holtz is sending his wife to work on her bike through the rain and snow, but he’s thinking of her well fair by wanting her to have the best lights available, he really is a caring husband. We give him our suggestions and hope he buys her the lights before Christmas!
Question: My wife is riding her bike (yeah) to and from work. With the time change it’s dark when she leaves work. I need to get her lights for her road bike. She has a Cat Eye set that is totally inadequate. What are the top two or three light sets that you recommend?
Thanks,
Craig.
Hi Craig,
You have to get a set of twin headlight with halogen bulbs and rechargeable units with enough power to dazzle anything coming the other way, well not dazzle them, but make sure they know you are there. Here are our top three light sets.
The Lumicycle Halide 2008 Plus

The Halide 2008 Plus has two 10 watt HID arc lamps which is like 80 watts of Halogen light, with the 14.8 volt lithium Ion endurance battery pack you get nearly 4 hours of runtime. The beam is a brilliant blue and nearly as bright as natural daylight, you can either have a wide beam of 13 degrees or a focused 6 degree beam spread. Very bright and quite expensive, but probably the best.
The Princeton Switchback 2 2008
The Switchback has a strong beam and focused narrow beam with multiple modes for flexibility depending on your needs. A lithium Ion battery pack that can be charged in 2 hours and even from a car. Light weight and very versatile.

The Blackburn X 8 Double Lightset
The Blackburn is a tough double beam lightest, one light is a wide angle and the other is a one spot which gives a great combination for all uses. The Luxeon lamps are efficient and give extended burn time. The optics is designed to focus and shape the beam to maximize output and the head units are waterproof and rattle proof. There also a dimmer switch for times when you don’t need the full strength, compact Li-Ion battery pack will fit any bike and has a LED charge indicator and recharging is simple.

Our Choice?
We would go for either the Blackburn or the Lumicycle; the Blackburn is not as expensive and has many attributes, light weight and durable, a very good system. The Lumicycle is cutting edge technology and does everything you would need to keep safe and be seen. The Blackburn just edges it, but only just.
