Which Headset for a Cannondale SIX 13?
Christian from Mauritius is intending on buying a Cannondale SIX 13, but he needs to know which headset to fit to his frame. We don’t know if the frame has had a headset fitted previously or if this is the first. We suggest what he should do in both cases and give a serious warning about fitting headsets
Question:
I am intending to purchase a frame Cannondale SIX 13 year 2008 but frame has no headset, it’s should use an integrated one but I don’t know which headset to order, some friends says to check the Cannondale website on there they just say it’s an FSA CARBON INTEGRATED that all with out any specification, can some one tell me what type of headset should I use for this frame.
Regards,
Christian.
Hi Christian,
Does your Cannondale six 13 have any parts of the headset fitted? If it has nothing, I mean any bearing surfaces inside the frame or on the fork then you should stick with what has been fitted previously and in this case it is possibly an FSA, but Cannondale fit different head sets depending on the price of the bike. Cannondale also use a standard alloy headset as well as he top Campagnolo Record.
If the frame has never had a headset fitted then you can use any internal A headset, it will need to be one and an eighth size. If you are fitting a new head set then the bearing surfaces have to be pressed into the frame and they must be square to each other or the head set will not work well and smoothly. To fit a headset properly you need to have the correct tools to press in the bearing properly and is a job that should be done by a professional bike mechanic. I suggest to get the job done properly that you should take the frame to your local shop, they will know the correct headset to order and to fit to your frame and you shouldn’t have any problems afterwards.
Headsets, bottom brackets and wheel building are some of the jobs best left to someone who know exactly what they are doing. Once a headset has been fitted to your frame properly it shouldn’t need adjustment and if it does this is a job you can do your self, but fitting is a bit more complicated. I hope we have helped?
