Good, Reasonably Priced Wheels

Ananda wants our advice on wheels. We always say that the best way to improve the handling and performance of your bike is to spend money on new wheels. Ananda wants reliable and cheap, which isn’t an easy job, but we have a very good suggestion as the where the best place to look might be.

Question:
Looking for a new front wheel to replace the Alex AS1 rims and Vitoria tires (700c) that is low cost but reliable, durable, stiff, and long-lasting for both long rides and short fast racing. I’ve tried a few brands (Mavic, Shimano), but everything is so expensive. What kinds of wheels would be good replacement on a specialized sequoia and does it really make a difference outside of a few extra grams of rotating weight. I’m mainly looking for durability, reliability and comfort without sacrificing too much weight.

Hi Ananda,

Wheels are the best way to improve your bike, put a light pair of wheels in your bike, and they don’t have to be much lighter than the ones you have, and you will notice a difference.

You want low cost, reliable and stiff wheels; this isn’t so easy if you also want light wheels. Mavic, Shimano and Campagnolo make some of the best wheels available, but as you say, they are not cheap. Take a look at the special offers from Neuvation Wheels, they have quite a few different wheels sets and at great prices. You say you live in the U.S. so you will be able to buy from Neuvation as they don’t export outside except to Canada. Neuvation have lots of lightweight, carbon and stiff wheels that are long lasting, these wheels are the best priced wheels for the quality that we have seen and they regularly have specials at very low prices. Check them out!
