Giant, Schwinn or something else?
Jennifer is looking at three new bikes and wants our opinion on them and if we can suggest any others that might give her that old feeling of “racing” along and pushing herself. We can’t promise she will race along, but we can give her our thoughts
Question: I am looking for a new bike. I used to ride a road bike, and loved the feeling of pushing myself, getting a good rhythm & “racing” along. I need a bike now which allows me to put as little weight on my arms as possible, yet, I would still love to be able to “fly” along. It would be nice to also ride on dirt bike paths, but not necessary.
I am looking into the Giant FCR3 w, Giant Cypress LX w, and the Schwinn Sierra GS. Your thoughts or other suggestions?
Hi Jennifer,
Yes we all know that “racing” along feeling and are always looking to getting it again, we hope you get a new bike you are happy with and re-live those feelings.

The Giant FCR 3 w and the Giant Cypress LX w, nice choice, first the FCR 3 w is a road bike for fitness and all-round riding, you could use it on a smooth path, but nothing rougher it’s a good strong bike with an aluminum frame in a woman’s specific design, 24 gears, a comfortable saddle and 700c wheels size. I think the Cypress LX w could take you more places, on and off road, it has disc brakes, suspension front and back, with the use of a suspension seat post and forks and also 700c wheels which the best size for on the road work, the Cypress seems a better compromise between both disciplines.

The Schwinn Sierra GS has a bit of both of the Giants, it has suspension the same as the Cypress, but it doesn’t have disc brakes and it doesn’t have 700c wheels, so I don’t think it as nice as the Giant Cypress LX w or as useful.

Other bikes we have seen include the Trek 7300WSD Hybrid, very similar the Schwinn, full suspension, SRAM gears etc, but it does have 700c wheels. If you want something sportier and fast with a flat bar then we liked the Trek 7.6 FX WSD, it’s a lot more expensive and you definitely can’t take it off road.
From Cannondale we saw the Road Warrior 400 Feminine, it has suspension seat post and 700c wheels and no disc brakes, the GT Nomad Sport looks good also, in your price range, problem is its not woman specific, but a good looking bike.
After looking at them all we think your first choice of the Giant Cypress LX w as the best one there, go for it!
