Do We Know Fuji Bikes?
John Lutz wants to replace his old Nishiki bike that will soon be 20 years old. This is a good idea, but he is interested in a Fuji bike and he wants to know what we know about them. Well they make some very nice top end frames and bikes, the problem is that the bikes he is looking at are at the other end of the market and we are not too impressed
Question:
My bike is a 1989 Nishiki and I am in the market for a new bike, However I don’t have alot of money to spend. I have been looking at the Fugi newest. What do you know about Fugi bikes?
Hi John,
You ask about the Fugi newest, do you mean Fuji Newest? This is quite a regular mistake as it does sound similar and you can come up with a Fugi bike if you Google the name, but on closer inspection it is actually Fuji, so we are sure that’s what you want to know about.
There are four different Fuji Newest bikes on the market, the Newest 1.0, which is the best Newest down to the Newest 4.0 which is the cheapest of the range.
The Fuji Newest 1.0 has a mix of Shimano Tiagra, 105, VP and Tektro components. These are good, but the price has been kept low with the use of some cheaper parts, like the cassette, chain and tires, along with Fuji branded parts which could be from anywhere. The frame is aluminum with curved seat stays and a compact design, the forks are carbon.
The Fuji Newest 2.0 has the same frame and fork set up as the Newest 1.0, but with cheaper equipment, Shimano Tiagra and Sora and the cheaper bits that are on the 1.0 bike.
The Newest 3.0 and the 4.0 much the same, but with even cheaper kit and are not for the serious cyclist, fine for a ride to the shops or a bit of keep fit, but I wouldn’t fancy doing a long or hilly ride on either of these bikes.
Fuji makes some very nice bikes, their top end frames are very good, but I don’t think these four are up to much. I’m sure if you look at Trek or Giant you would find a bike that would be better for the same money.
We hope this helps?
