Disc Brakes for a Cyclo-Cross Bike?
Jim Devaney has a cyclo-cross bike and wants to fit disc brakes. He wants to retro fit them, this could be difficult if his frame doesn’t have the fittings, but here is our suggestion
Question:
Can I retrofit my cyclo-cross bike for disk brakes? I currently have cantilever type. Thanks.
Hi Jim,
Basically the answer is no! It’s not so easy to retro fit disc brakes to a bike that’s not made for them. The forks and the rear chain stay need to have the brackets for the disc brakes. These are two small fittings that the brake parts screw onto, these come fitted to most suspension forks and to mountain bike frames.
There is some bolt on brackets available, but you are going to have a big job finding them as they are not easily found. I hope this helps?
