Control Tech or FSA Crank Set?
Enrique can’t decide between the Control Tech and the FSA Carbon Crank set. We like the Campagnolo carbon cranks, either the Record or Chorus, but Enrique wants to know which of the others we like, we try to choose
Question: I am having trouble deciding between a Control Tech carbon comp crank set and an FSA carbon pron team issue. besides that the FSA is glossy and the controltech is mate, i can’t seem to figure out which one would be best. can you help me out ? im 180 lbs.
Hi Enrique,
Yea that’s a hard one, both are a class act; carbon is now the choice of anyone who wants to look the part. Have you looked at the Campagnolo carbon cranks? They are pretty cool also!
OK lets concider the FSA Pro carbon crank set. FSA manufactured some of the first carbon chain sets and they are very well made and look great, as you say they are gloss finish, which in my book get the vote, shiny being more “Bling” than matt.
The problem with the FSA cranks is that they are quite flexible, but then they are also the lightest you can get, so its swings and roundabouts. If you are not too worried about the flex then they are the nicest looking, we are all weightless addicts and want the lightest we can get, but a few ounces are not as important as power out put, unless you are only going to look at the bike all day and not ride it?

Control tech is well known in the MTB world, but they are getting in to the road market. The Control Tech carbon crank set is stiff and if you like to Matt look then it is the one for you. The cranks fit to the Shimano ISIS bottom bracket, this is a good system, like most cranks now this an an oversized bottom bracket axle system. It is a nice looking crank, if a bit chunky, but that gives it its strength, I like it for its build.

From the two, for looks and weight I would choose the FSA, for functionality it would be the Control Tech. My personal choice is the Campagnolo Record or Chorus, looks good, light weight and has a very good bottom bracket, but in the end the choice is yours. I hope we have helped? Let us know what you decide.
