When we see something new or very useful, here at Bike Cycling Reviews we like to pass on our thoughts to our readers and when we saw and tried Citra Wipe Hand Wipes form Zogics, we thought you had better know all about them

We have all been out on the bike and either had a puncture or had problem with the gears and chain, then our hands are black with oil and dirt, what do we do? Well, we used to just rub our hands on some handy grass at the side of the road, or if we had one we could use a hanky, but then we usually didn`t have anything like that to hand anyway. Things have moved on since then and now you can carry a Citra Wipe hand cleaner and not spread oil and grease all over you handle bar tape and expensive cycling clothes.

The wipes come in a two pack of handy sized heavy-duty foil pouches (2.5" by 4"), which you can either put in a back pocket or in your inner tube pack under your saddle, somewhere handy for when you need to clean up. First of all the pack has a handy notch on both sides, so that when your hands are greasy you can still easily open the pack.

The smell of the natural citrus oil extracts hits your nose with a freshness that you know is going to clean you hands of chain grease. The wipe is 9" by 7" which is big enough to clean any size of hand, the Citra Wipe is made of a very soft, strong, low-linting non-woven material, Zogics tell us that the fabric is pre-saturated with a cleaning formula made from non-toxic oils extracted from citrus rind and are enriched with aloe vera and lanolin, they are also self-drying and you don`t need any water for their use.

That`s the Science, Do They Work?

Yes they do, I thought the best test would be an old, dirty, very oily and greasy chain and cassette that needed cleaning, a very messy job that hands will get very black, greasy and oily. First I had to give the cassette a good clean with degreaser and soapy water, as usual, job done all clean, but hands a bit dirty.

I thought, maybe I could clean the chain with a hand wipe, it will not get into the center of the chain, but it should be a good test for the hand wipe, I don`t think this was what Zogics had in mind for their wipes. So I opened up the pack and ran the chain through the wipe and it came out very clean, I still had to clean the chain properly with the degreaser, but the wipe cleaned the outside of the chain and didn`t rip while I was doing it.

Now to my hands, they were black, so with a new Citra Wipe I cleaned my hands spotlessly, obviously under my nails was still a bit dirty, but my hands were defiantly clean enough to eat my lunch, or for that matter hold my white handlebar tape or touch my cycling jersey, so yes they work very well. I also put the Citra Wipe to a test that I am sure Zogics didn`t think of, I cleaned the inside of my greasy oven, I wouldn`t advice it as does make your oven smell of lemon and I don`t yet know how it will affect the taste of my dinner!

What Do We Know About Zogics?

Zogics are from Western Massachusetts and develop and manufacture personal care products in America, they are also members of 1% For The Planet which is a group of businesses that are committed to helping the environment by donating at least 1% of their annual sales to environmental organizations worldwide, so these wipes also help the planet, you can learn more about 1% For The Planet at http://www.onepercentfortheplanet.org

We would not recommend anything unless we had tried it and liked it, the suggested price is $2.49 for a pack of two wipes and they are becoming more available all over the USA and eventually the rest of the world, if you want more information go to their web-site at http://www.zogics.com and look forward to having clean hands!
