I have a 2008 R2 and I have ridden the Cervelo R3 (not SL). I also have a Colnago President, Scott Addict SL and a Look 555.

R2 definitely is on the stiff side and will require your full attention. But what a ride! Goes up hills like a monkey. I have the Colnago and it's smooth as glass but just not as efficient going up hills as the R2. As for the R3, I love the smoothness and it is stiffer than my Colnago but not as stiff as the R2.

If you are only getting 1 bike, then go for the R3SL, it will satisfy most of your needs. The R2 maybe too stiff for regular guys like you and me. However, if you can handle the stiffness of the R2, you will be rewarded with the greatest feeling when you climb up that hill ahead of all your pals!

Best scenario, Have the R2 for hilly days, Colnago President for the century, R3SL for the in betweens. I am gonna pick up an R3SL one of these days!

The addict front derailleur mount works perfectly. I am a mechanic, shop manager, and Addict rider. Charlie Deeks, don't know where you came up with that myth of difficulties!!! The Addict is a great all-around race bike. Throw away the hacksaw, save your steerer tube, and rock a slightly angled stem in the upward-tilt position and it'll feel comfy AND twitchy! YAY!

The Addict R2 front derailleur hanger is carbon fibre, not "alloy for strength." I haven't had any trouble with it, but some owners say front derailleur alignment is difficult, and once it is aligned, getting it to stay that way. The Addict R2 is an amazing ride. Stiff, but not too unforgiving over rough patches. I say go with that! Cheers!

I've had my R2 for just over two years now and love it. I'm 55-years'-old, 175 lbs. and have a surgically-repaired lower back. I have never had a problem with gear adjustment. I never have had back or neck pains after riding and I have done several centuries. The bike is a dream to ride: super light, super responsive and super fast. On steep hills, the bike's lightest is a real advantage. The bike was developed with input from several riders from the old Sauvier-Duval ProTour team (sp?).
