A nice Carbon Bottle Cage for a Scott CR1

Steve Huveldt has bought a Scott CR1 SL CD, he read our review and liked what he saw, now he wants to fit carbon bottle cages to his prized Scott and wants to know which carbon cages we think will suit his carbon bike frame. There are quite a lot to choose from, but our BCR Style Monkey has been doing his home work

Question: I just bought a Scott CR1 SL CD and am looking for a nice carbon water bottle cage to compliment it. Any recommendations? And thanks for the reviews of the CR1.

Hi Steve,
All the carbon bottle cages do the same thing, they hold your water bottle and price doesn’t seem to make any difference to how well they work, they all hold the bottle tightly at first but as you use it they tend to get loser.

That said they look great, so which ones do we recommend, well here is our list:

Campagnolo

Top of the list has to be the Campagnolo Record bottle cage, it’s the Rolls Royce of bottle cages, but you can have one! Seeing as your bike has Shimano equipment it wouldn’t be right for you to fit a Campagnolo bottle cage, so forget that one.

Deda

The Deda SR1 bottle cage is fine example of Italian design, not over stated, but a little boring. It’s OK, but you need something a bit more “flash” with more obvious carbonness.

Elite

Silver

Now Elite have some of the nicest and most stylish bottle cages around, the Custom is functional and classy and you should consider it as a possible, then there is the Pase, very similar I black, but the ace has to be the Pase in silver carbon, if you Scott has the silver top tube then this could coordinate well, but maybe a bit over the top for some tastes. The Patao again has good looks, but is very similar to the others.

MOST Bork

MOST is from Pinarello and the Bork is an Italian masterpiece of style, but a bit too much carbon and it weighs in at 25 gms, so a bit hefty there, nice graphics, but too much carbon, if that is possible?

Woodman

The woodman we don’t like, its one piece of round carbon with another piece to stop he bottle falling down, simple, functional, but low on style and that name.

Zipp

The Zipp is well made and looks god with nice cut outs to make it look light as well as being functional, grips the bottle well with an easy in and out. The Zipp could be the one for you.

Time

The Time carbon bottle cage is a wonder of carbon engineering; you can see the carbon weave through its glossy finish and along with its aerodynamic design. The problem for you is that it has some red on it which will not go with your Scott with its silver design.

Which Carbon Cage Then?

The Style Monkey thinks you should get the Elite Pase in Silver Carbon, it’s stylish and everyone will see it and know you have carbon and taste, if the silver is too much then go for the Zipp. It’s down to you in the end, but that’s what the monkey recommends.
