Is There Another Name for Amoeba Chain Tensioners?

Norm Rivard is looking for a chain tensioner and thinks it’s the Amoeba, but we think it must be the MRP or E-13; both companies make chain guides, tensioners and chain wheel protectors

Question: Amoeba chain tensioner. Where to find their site.
Who makes that are they under another name

Thanks
Norm.

Hi Norm,
We’ve looked everywhere for the Amoeba Chain Tensioner and we found that Amoeba make many thing, but not Chain Tensioners. For lots of Down Hill goods have a look at www.amoebaparts.com handlebars, stems, frames and many handy little bits, but no chain tensioner.

I have found many Chain Tensioners by other manufacturers, there are quite a few different designs, and I think what you are probably looking for is the MRP or the E-13 Chain Tensioners or Chain Guide. These chain guides also are chain wheel protectors with two rollers top and bottom to guide and to some extent tension the chain.

If it’s a chain tensioner for single speed then you need to look at DMR or Surly, these chain tensoners are a sprung arm with a chain roller, the spring holds the roller up and under the chain, so holding the chain tight over rough ground.

If you want the “Rolls Royce” of chain tensioners then you have to look at the Soulcraft Convert Chain Tensioner, it has a pushrod quick release for easy wheel removal and a silent polyurethane roller, it’s not cheap but it’s probably the best on the market.

This will have given you a few clues to getting a Chain Tensioner, but not by Amoeba.
