Adistar Cycling Shoes and VP Pedals
Conrad has a pair of Adidas Adistar Road Comp cycling shoes and a pair of VP-R61 clipless pedals, he wants advice on which shoe plate cleats he can use on these very smart shoes. We have had a good look at both and this is what we think
Question: Hi Samuel,
This is a very good site that has really provided relevant and timely information. I am new to road cycling and I wanted some advice on the type of cleats that can be used on a Adistar Road Comp Shoe, and the instructions to mount VP-R61 cleats (the ones that I have).
Thanks
Conrad.
Hi Conrad,
Thanks for the nice word about Bike Cycling Reviews and we are all pleased that you have found it helpful.

Those Adidas Adistar shoes look very nice, I like the look of those shoes, very aerodynamic with the zip front and the smooth and shiny finish, the sole is very rigid. The answer to your question as to which cleats they take is, just about all of them. The three bolt holes are for Look and any similar fitting three bolt cleat, the ones that are shaped like a tri-angle. The long and the short slots are for all the other cleats, based on the original Shimano SPD cleats, like the ones you have for the VP-R61 pedals.

The cleat (probably the E-C01) has two bolts side by side and the cleat is fitted with the point facing to the front of the shoe, the bolts go through the cleat into the slots and they have slides for full adjustment, back and forward and for the angle of the foot on the pedal.
If you have never fitted cleats before it is a process of trial and error, but there are a few things to remember. First you should have the knuckle bone over the axle of the pedal, so that all your power goes through in to your pedal. As to the angle of the foot you will know if it is comfortable or not. You need the foot to feel in a natural position, for the first few rides you will need to take an Allen key or screw driver to make small adjustments until you get them correctly positioned.

We have found that the smaller cleat system like the SPD’s (like yours) can be difficult to get engaged and can foul up with small stones or if you have had to walk, mud. We much prefer for road cycling, the Look or Time larger platform, but try these and see how you get on; you can always replace them at a later date. Have we helped again?
