A New Bike for a New Rider
Joe is just starting out and wants to know which bike he should be spending his money on? He has a fancy for a Trek 1.5 and he wants our thoughts on whether it will suit his needs. We have taken a guess at what he wants and taken a look at the Trek
Question: Looking to get a road bike. Haven’t done a lot of riding but was looking to get into it quite seriously. Was looking at a trek 1.5 08 which seemed pretty good from looking around. Unfortunately my knowledge on the subject not great so any other suggestions for bikes would be great.
Hi Joe,
The Trek 1.5 is a very sporty bike indeed and at a great price. Bontrager wheels and cranks mated to Shimano Tiagra and Sora gears, the frame is made of Alpha Black Aluminum and the forks are carbon Bontrager race. Most of the other bits are also from Bontrager which is all good stuff, not too expensive. The frame design is slightly sloping with sensible geometry for speed and comfort, the head set is hidden making the frame look sleek and sporty, it’s a well thought out bike that look better than it’s price would tell you it was.
I would say it’s a great bike to start with, if you are happy and enjoy your road cycling then you can look to up grading and spending more money. Get used to cycling and take it from there and enjoy it!
