A Bike for Under $150?
Bill Lechner has a question that we think will be very difficult for him to achieve, he is looking for a bike for under $150. A new bike is going to be hard to find at that price, well a good one that is. His best bet would be to look for a second hand bike, here are our thoughts
Question:
I live 2 miles from my place of work. I would like to bike to work but do not want to use my “good” bike (I teach at a middle school and fear damage). Is there a good road bike for under $150 that would meet my needs?
Hi Bill,
It’s nice to be able to ride to work for many reasons, saving money, saving the environment and it’s good for your health, well depending on the traffic levels and the pollution.
I think you will struggle to find a very good bike at that price. Try your local supermarket, some sell cheep bikes, it may only last a couple of years, but for under $150 I don’t think you can expect to get much for your buck from a new bike.
The best thing for you to do is to look for a second hand bike in good condition; the local bike shop might be the best place to start. The “For Sale” section in your local newspapers or if you check out e-bay, you never know there maybe someone near where you live who is selling a bike. Second hand, that’s the way to go Bill, good luck I think you will need it to find a bike at that price!
Here is a suggestion from Tony and Richard; great minds think alike, eh guys? Thanks for you help.
Tony Galvan,
On the answer to “where to get a bike for $150.00:….One of the very best places to search for a great deal on a used bike is Craigslist. Craigslist is local pick so the bike can be inspected before purchase.
Richard,
Re your answer to Bill about where to look for a $150 bike. Tell him to go to Craigslist: he can narrow his search right down to his city, as I did here in West Palm Beach.
